Arctic Fox

We were fortunate to observe several Arctic Foxes today. They blended so well into the mossy tundra that I needed quite a lot of help to spot them. The Arctic Fox is about the size of a large house cat. The fox pictured below was in transition from her winter white coat to her spring coat. We saw more clumps of white fur than actual foxes when on land.

I couldn’t help but be enchanted to learn that they wrap themselves up and tuck themselves in with their tails — like a warm winter scarf!

I watched from a kayak as the fox pictured below crept up on the nesting sea bird and stole her eggs.
