Sea Bear
Today we saw a third polar bear. He entered the water with ease and grace. He is a marine mammal who was MADE for life on the ice.
His wide feet are webbed for swimming. He paddles with the front and steers with the back.
The ice is his home but it is melting. Without the ice, he cannot hunt; and without food his species may face extinction.
Does he have a sense of this shift in his environment? Can he taste the pollution? Does he know why his brothers are starving to death?
Our Captain has had to change course several times because the ice has receded much further than is expected for this time of year.
This is an emergency.
